Objective
At the Namibian Youth Chamber of Environment (NYCE), we believe it’s time to go beyond traditional waste management practices and spark a real, sustainable change. With National Clean-Up Day on the September 16th, 2024, just around the corner, we are dedicating the entire month of September to not only cleaning up but to also innovating for a cleaner future. With that, we’re excited to launch the “Youth Environmental Heroes” competition. We’re inviting young people and organisations across Namibia to tackle waste issues in their communities with fresh, creative solutions. This is your chance to make a difference, showcase your innovation, and win a cash prize!
Eligibility
Open to young people aged 18 to 35.
Competition Structure
1. Challenge Requirements:
❖ Look around your community and find a specific waste or pollution problem.
❖ Come up with an innovative solution that tackles this issue. It could be anything from recycling and upcycling to new ways of managing waste.
❖ Put your solution into action during the competition period and document your process.
❖ Create a short video (up to 5 minutes) to share via WhatsApp, including:
▪ Your name (or names) and a brief introduction.
▪ An explanation of your creative process
▪ The amount and type of waste or pollution your solution addresses.
▪ The materials you used.
▪ The significance of your solution
❖ Upon submitting your video briefly share your project plans and targets
❖ Make sure to register yourself as a NYCE member
2. Judging Criteria:
❖ The entry will be judged on impact: How effectively does your solution address the waste issue?
❖ On creativity: How unique and innovative is your idea?
❖ What are the Environmental Benefits: What positive impact does your solution have on the environment?
❖ How feasible is it: Can your solution be easily implemented and sustained?
❖ Success in meeting your set target: How successful were you in meeting your set goals?
3. Timeline:
The competition kicks off on the 1st of September, with participants taking action throughout the entire month. All submissions must be completed by the deadline of the 31st of September 2024 at 17:00. Following the submission period, a review and voting process will take place from October 1st to October 6th. The winner will be announced on October 7th.
4. How to Enter:
❖ Send your video via WhatsApp to +264 814875754.
❖ Make sure your video covers everything listed in the challenge requirements.
❖ Remember, only WhatsApp entries will be accepted—no emails or SMS.
5. Prize:
❖ Winner: N$3000 for the most creative and effective solution.
❖ The winning solution will be highlighted on the NYCE’s social media and other media platforms.
6. Promotion:
After submission feel free to share your entry. Use the hashtags #YouthEnvironmentalHeroes and #NYCE to get the word out.
7. After the Competition:
An independent panel of environmental experts will review the submissions , and the winning solution will be shared on our, highlighting its impact and as an inspiration to others.
